Getting started

Download, install, and first-run setup

Headmaster is a desktop workspace for connected engines, task context and tools. Start with one engine and one small task.

Get the desktop app

Contact GCAP Labs for the current installation package. Ask for the package and setup instructions for your operating system. This guide does not currently provide a verified public download or package-manager command.

For a supplied Windows installer, run the Headmaster .exe and follow its instructions. If you receive a portable ZIP, extract the complete package before opening Headmaster.exe.

Connect an engine

  1. Open Headmaster and complete any sign-in required by your installation.
  2. Open Agents → Engines to see the available engines.
  3. Configure the engine you want to use. Provider credentials, CLI installation and runtime access depend on that engine.
  4. Confirm that the runtime is available before starting a task.

The website's development captures show the interface with an inactive runtime. They demonstrate setup, not a successful execution.

Try a bounded task

Start with a few non-sensitive notes and a specific request, for example:

Draft a client update from these notes. Separate decisions, open questions and next steps. Keep references to the source notes.

Review the result for accuracy. Check tool permissions before enabling actions that edit files or reach external services. Engine capabilities and review behavior vary by configuration.

Add context and tools

Connect only the material and tools the task needs. Persistent memory, storage location and external processing depend on your engine, runtime and providers; do not assume every installation stores or processes everything locally.
